Catalysing Culture

ITS Technology Group provides businesses across the UK with ultra-fast, full-fibre connectivity and as the business grew rapidly, its old rural Cheshire office couldn't keep pace. With no meeting rooms, no breakout spaces, and a kitchen barely big enough for a kettle, the team had long outgrown it.

When ITS moved to a purpose-designed two-floor office at Daresbury Business Park, they invited us in to help shape what the new space should be, not just practically, but culturally. This wasn't a simple fit-out brief. It was a question about what the office should stand for in a world where hybrid working had fundamentally changed the relationship between people and place.

Concept sketch of different work zones

With an office move to a building in Daresbury Business Park planned- in a place set across 2 floors, we set to work collaboratively with the ITS team to define what they and the business need.

In a post pandemic world where people had transitioned to hybrid ways of working, the business needed the space to reinvent what the office was for, maintain company culture and promote new ways of connecting- with each other as team and with their clients and partners. This approach combined the practical and emotional aspects of what they would like out of the space as people and a company.

Making Connections

Connectivity became the driving force behind the project, shaping the brief to create a 'home', a place that feels good to be in that would connect staff back to the office. The colour scheme reflects this by dialling in moods ranging from calming to vibrant using a tonal pallette designed to energise without overwhelming. Natural planting throughout the space provides the connection back to nature that the team didn't want to lose in their new location.

The new social and break out areas we created offer staff a variety of ways to connect and interact with each other complimented by areas designed for more intimate and private moments in the day. The meeting spaces range from zoom booths to board room with formal and informal zones scattered between to create an overall environment that suits the way the teams like to work best.

Making a Difference

The ITS Technology Group fit-out was completed at a moment when tech businesses across the UK were grappling with a defining challenge — how to make the office genuinely worth commuting to. The answer, as ITS discovered, isn't about mandating attendance. It's about making a space that people actually want to be in.

Since moving in, ITS has continued to scale aggressively. The company has raised over £190 million in investment, grown to nearly 300 employees, and launched its Faster Britain initiative, a national tour starting from the Daresbury HQ, to connect businesses across 98% of its UK fibre network. Employee reviews at the Daresbury office cite smart offices and flexible working as standout positives, exactly the brief the studio set out to solve.

For us, the ITS project is a clear example of what workplace interior design should do at its best: give a fast-growing business a space that reflects who they've become, sustains their culture through growth, and gives their people a genuine reason to show up.
