The House That Craft Built

A great headquarters does more than house a business. It tells clients who you are before a single word is spoken. It makes staff proud to walk through the door. And if you get it right, it becomes one of your most powerful commercial assets.

That was the ambition when TMT Group, a forward-thinking contractor with a serious commitment to sustainable construction, asked us to design their new three-storey HQ. They needed a space that reflected their values, celebrated their craft, and positioned them convincingly as a leader in their field. A home for the business that could grow with them.

We led the project end-to-end: consultation, concept development, space planning, interior design, bespoke joinery, furniture, dressing packs, styling and signage & wayfinding across all three floors.

The Art of Construction

Every great interior project starts with a single creative idea that holds everything together. For this project, that idea was The Art of Construction, a lens that turned the building itself into a brand experience, treating the materials, processes, and people behind construction as worthy of celebration, not concealment.

That idea drove every decision, from architecture to artwork to the smallest detail. The result is a building that doesn't just function well, it communicates. Visitors understand TMT's values within minutes of arriving. Staff feel the pride of working somewhere that takes craft seriously.

Three Floors. One Story

The ground floor sets the tone immediately: a warm, honest welcome space that draws staff and visitors into an open, collaborative social environment. No corporate sterility. No anonymous reception. Just a welcoming space that says, clearly and confidently, this is a company that knows who it is.

The centrepiece of the ground floor is The Construction Lab, an in-house workshop and showroom concept that brings the raw energy of making into the heart of the business. It's where experimentation happens visibly, where clients can see TMT's thinking in action, and where the company's commitment to innovation is demonstrated rather than declared. It doubles as a venue for workshops, client presentations, and prototype testing, turning the HQ into a hub for knowledge sharing and a genuine commercial tool.

Move upstairs and the atmosphere shifts. Lighter palettes, modular furniture, and flexible layouts encourage the kind of open, adaptable thinking that drives innovation. Spaces designed not just for focus and collaboration, but for the wellbeing of the people who spend their working lives there.

Story in the Detail

The best workplace interiors reward the people who use them daily, not just the clients who visit once. At TMT, the details are deliberate and layered.

Vertical circulation becomes a journey: a bold spiralling staircase anchors the building and frames views across every floor, while a sensory lift with textured walls, transforms an everyday moment into something worth noticing. I-beam tables and brick shelving act as quiet artefacts of craft. An army of 3D-printed Lego figures, wall art installations using reclaimed materials, and construction tools reframed as sculpture bring humour, humanity, and pride to daily life in the building.

None of it is decoration for decoration's sake. Every element earns its place in the story.

Space fuels Growth

The TMT HQ is now more than an office. It's a living showroom that clients walk through and immediately understand why TMT is different. It's a recruitment tool that attracts people who want to work somewhere with genuine character. And it's a culture engine, a space that reinforces the company's values every single day, without anyone having to say a word.

Workshops, exhibitions, and prototype testing extend its commercial reach beyond day-to-day operations, positioning TMT as a thought leader with a physical space to match their intellectual ambition.

Space, designed well, can be one of the most valuable business assets a company can have. This is what it looks like when that potential is fully realised. As Managing Director Tom Traynor noted, the design on the workplace is becoming a key strategic asset for the growth of the business.

"Our new HQ has transformed how we present ourselves to clients and how our people feel about coming to work. It's become both a home and a living showroom, a space that is uniquely ours and tells our story better than any brochure ever could.

Sheila Bird pushed us beyond what we thought was possible, and the result is an environment we're genuinely proud to bring people into. It has already changed how clients perceive us and how our team performs."
